This two-day tour to the Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania
DESTINATIONS VISITED
Tarangire National Park | Ngorongoro Crater
9 Days Mikumi, Ruaha and Selous Safari will take you to Ruaha National Park, located in the middle of Tanzania about 130 km from Iringa, is the second largest park in Tanzania, covering an area of more than 13,000 km2. The main vegetation types in Ruaha are Miombo woodland, acacia grasslands, and large baobab trees, all which attract diverse number of animals species. Some of the major attractions include large populations of elephants, giraffes, impalas, buffalo, lions, leopards, and hunting dogs. The Great Ruaha River that borders the park in the east, provides habitation for hippopotamus and crocodiles. Ruaha is also a prime destination for birdwatchers, with 436 species that have been identified so far.
Mikumi National Park – This relatively small (3230 sq km) National Park lies 300 km west of Dar-es-Salaam and is the closest park to the capital. It is nestled between the Uruguru mountains to the East and the Rift Valley escarpments to the Southwest. As it is close to the Selous ecosystem and therefor part of it, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area, while it is easily to access. Although less spectacular regarding Flora and Fauna, the Mikumi national park obtains a good impression of the African animal world and is suitable very well for a short visit.

When you arrive in Dar es Salaam, you will be met and driven to the hotel.
You will be driven to the Dar es Salaam Airport for your flight to Mikumi National Park. You will be met and taken to the camp. Enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Mikumi National Park is the closest National Park to Dar es Salaam and is nestled between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast, and the Rubeho Mountains, Udzungwa Mountains and Rift Valley escarpment to the south west. As part of the Selous ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area.
There are high concentrations of game, with large herds of Nyasa Blue Wildebeest, (not found in Ruaha National Park), buffalo, impala, zebra and giraffe. Where there are large herds, there are always plenty of predators (lion, leopard) waiting for dinner. You can even find a population of Wild Hunting Dog.
Not only is Mikumi a great place for 'getting your eye in' on game drives, but it is also a fantastically colourful place. The open grasslands stretching out before you change through the spectrum of orange and yellows throughout the day
The Tanzanian landscape includes several small isolated mountain ranges. Each of these have a unique mixture of habitats and animal species and none more so than the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Home to at least ten species of primate some endemic and several recently discovered species of bird, a rainforest trek here will be one you never forget.
With over 400 species of birds in the park there is plenty to keep any bird enthusiast interested. A broad range of savannah species are joined by some notable species such as Zanzibar Red Bishop.
You will drive to the Mikumi air strip for your flight to Ruaha National Park. You will be met and taken to your new camp. Enjoy an afternoon game drive.
There is nothing more refreshing to the eye than the band of green that clings to the banks of the Great Ruaha River as it winds way through the rocky outcrops and mountains that punctuate this huge area of Tanzania. Away from the river, the landscape transforms dramatically from arid scrublands and grassland to lush green leaves and grasses once the rains begin.
Ruaha has a large lion population as well as Hunting Dog, leopard, cheetah, Hyena. Elephants are easily seen as well as Greater and Lesser kudu, roan, Sable and Eland antelope to mention just a few. Ruaha National Park over 530 recorded bird species, more during the green season with visiting migrant species.
The keys to an outstanding game drive are experience, knowledge and a suitable vehicle. All game drives around the park are taken in open 4 wheel drive vehicles. These vehicles have been designed to ensure maximum visibility for all passengers. All have 2 way radio in case of emergency. The game drives are led by a trained, experienced English speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of every safari you make. Many of the guides at Ruaha River Lodge have worked in the Park for years honing their knowledge of the Ruaha Park.
Fly from Ruaha to Selous and transfer to your camp.
Selous is dominated by the Rufiji River which sprawls out into a myriad of lakes and deltas which fill and empty with the rainfall. The predominant landscape is flat with acacia woodland.
Selous is home to a third of Tanzania's elephant and two thirds of the Hunting Dog population. The population of Dogs peaks in September and October and packs of upto 56 Dogs have been spotted in the Reserve. The Rufiji River is home to plenty of hippo and croc, and the Reserve is home to large numbers of Buffalo, Lion as well as a great many antelope species.
The sandbanks, oxbow lakes, islands and channels are home to over 440 species of birds, including 2 rare species, the Pel's Fishing Owl and the White-Backed Heron, which habituate the wooded sections of the riverbank.
All game drives are taken in open vehicles with a sun shade roof, so there are no impediments to anyone's view. Guides at Rufiji are locally trained and are experts in the Selous area.
A game walk at Rufiji will really open your eyes to the finer details often missed on game drives - the spore, footprints, the 'tillte five' representing the insect Kingdom are fascinating when evaluated and explained by your Walking guide.
Boating safaris in flat bottomed boats are perhaps the most relaxing way to game view. Sharing the river with pods of hippo and floats of crocodiles giving you the opportunity to view birds nesting in the banks, monitor lizards and many water birds are just some of the highlights.
This morning you will fly to Dar es Salaam for your departing flight.

Patrick (guide) and Gabriël (assistant guide) guided us safely, always motivating us when things became tough. You could really feel that the entire team of guides, cook and porters were on a mission for us to reach our goal in the best way possible.Setting up camp ahead of us and always greeting us with a smile. We will carry both the mountain and this dream team forever in our hearts. We also enjoyed the 5-day safari a lot.Praygod is an excellent guide and driver. We were able to spot the big 5 and experience some unforgettable moments:A pride of more then 20 lions walking past our 4x4 Land Cruiser, momma cheetah enjoying a gazelle meal with 4 cubs, momma leopard taking along her cub with prey in her mouth while climbing in a tree, big groups of elephants crossing the road, spotting a Rhino and her cub,…The overnight stays were also enjoyable and comfortable. Even in the tented lodges in the middle of the Serengeti and at the edge of the Ngorongoro crater we had all the comfort and delicious food we needed.Thank you Patrick and team!Thank you Praygod!Thank you Tanzania Joy Tours!Posted on Guillaume NVerified We recommend tanzania joys tour We had a great trek with tanzania joys tour. Our guides Emmanuel (who speaks very good French and this is a big plus) and Francis (who knows everyone and the environment) were at the top, listening, very friendly...We managed the ascent and it is partly thanks to them 2, the 8 porters and the cook Jacob who regaled us morning noon and evening (we would not starve far from therePosted on Franck SVerified Ascent of Kilimanjaro - A sporting but human adventure above all! The adventure we participated in during 6 days on the Machame route was just exceptional both in the scenery and in the quality of the course not to mention the professionalism of the team (Guided by Dixon and Rama), the meals were just great for this type of environment, as well as for the tents. An adventure that I recommend to the sportiest of us, yes the final ascent is not for the world.Posted on Giada CVerified Great experience! Fantastic experience, we did a 5-day Safari booking a private tour (in two). We visited the national parks of Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro, led by our super guide (his name was Praygod). The three parks are very different both in terms of landscape and wildlife, so we were happy to have visited all three. Although the price may seem high at first, a Third party of it is reserved for admission to the national parks (about $600-700 per person, if you decide to go on a private safari). The recommended campsites are fabulous, and being in the middle of the national parks they also allow you to have breakfast with elephants about ten meters away 😊 With TJ everything went well (not even a jeep failure 😉) and at the end of the Safari we were able to admire all the big 5!Posted on ThierryVerified Kilimanjaro via Machame - Polé polé! We made the ascent of Kilimanjaro by the Machame in early June. The team was on top! Patrick (guide), Michael (assistant guide), Jeremiah (cook) and all the others allowed us to enjoy this adventure and put every chance to get there. Not having any acclimatization problems, we asked to achieve in 6 days instead of 7. Preparation After several comparative researches, we contacted Emmanuel de Tanzania Joy Tours in February to prepare our adventure. The exchanges were fluid and clear. The prices charged in the normal way.A deposit is required and the balance is paid on site - provide cash $ to avoid 4% overload (common practice in Tanzania).FoodThe food was excellent, varied to keep the appetite and in large quantities. A hot water thermos was available at each meal for drinks (tea, coffee, chocolate).Breakfast: a porridge of millet, omelets, sausages, pancakes/bread with peanut butter / jam / etc.Lunch & dinner: soup, a main course (rice/pasta + vegetables + chicken/fish) and dessert (fresh fruit)Snack before dinner: popcorn + hot drink Ascension The "polé polé" rhythm is given by the guide and his assistant to acclimatize to the altitude. Taking Diamox is not mandatory but recommended. The porters dismantle, transport to human strength and set up camp to welcome us every step of the way. The last camp is particularly demanding for them because they have to transport water from the previous camp.Posted on Sabrina MVerified We had a great 3 days safari! Very easy straight forward organization process and communication with Emmanuel. All our requests were accomodated. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable, tried his best to make the most of our trip. The lodge Eileens Trees Inn was very comfortable, service and food was good. Can definitely recommend!Posted on Shai bVerified Unforgettable experience. First I want to mention that our guide was amazing. He has a lot of knowledge about the area, the people and of course the animals. Very patient and insightful. He often shared facts about the area and animals. So, Roger if you are reading this thank you once again for this unforgettable safari. You helped create many beautiful memories for me and my family. Then the Safari. In short we were very lucky on our safari. On day one we drove to the conservation area. We already encountered 3 of the big 5: lions, African buffalos and elephants. At the end of our safari we completed the entire big 5. We saw so many more animals. I wish I could remember it all.Our second day we added the leopard to our big five list. We went all over the Serengeti National Park. Again we saw many lions, zebras, gnu (wildebeests), antilopes, impalas, baboons, vultures and many more. The third day and fourth day were amazing we went from our camp in the Serengeti to our camp in ngorongoro. Where we completed our big 5 list.Every meal during the Safari we enjoyed with our guide and he shared many stories. This review doesn't do entire experience any justice. It is a lot to take in. But also a lifetime to enjoy them.Thank you for a safe and unforgettable experience.
