Passport & Visa Requirements for Tanzania
Traveling to Tanzania requires a valid passport and, for most visitors, a tourist visa. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry and should have at least one to two blank pages for immigration stamps. It’s also recommended to carry a copy of your passport and keep your original document safe during your trip.
Most travelers can obtain a Tanzania tourist visa either online (eVisa) before arrival or directly at entry points such as Julius Nyerere International Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport, and Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. The standard single-entry visa generally costs around $50 USD, while some nationalities, including U.S. citizens, require a multiple-entry visa at a higher fee. Visa fees are typically payable in cash (USD) or by card at some entry points, but applying online in advance is strongly recommended to avoid delays.
In addition to your visa, you may be asked to show proof of onward or return travel, accommodation details, or your travel itinerary on arrival. While not always required, having these documents ready can help speed up the immigration process. Travelers arriving from countries with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission may also need to present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate.
